Welcome
to the Emerald Gecko!
Come and
experience this magnificent beach paradise! We are a budget traveler
friendly place that characterizes the word "eco-tourism".
The Emerald Gecko is the brainchild of Benny and Lynda who gave up their
city lives to make the fantastic Andaman Islands their home. For the
past 5 years they have nurtured their first project, a mid-range resort
called "The Wild Orchid" (www.wildorchidandaman.com)
into a tremendous success. It was during this period that they interacted
with many travelers from all across the globe and saw that there was
no where on Havelock that catered to the conscious budget traveler who
not only wanted affordable accommodation but also a bit of comfort and
pampering. Emerald Gecko is a place where in addition to taking care
of your basic needs (a clean and safe environment) there is a generous
heap of gourmet food and fantastic island hospitality!
ACCOMMODATION
HUTS
- Rs. 500.00 (includes breakfast for two)
Built with local produce of the islands, these 10 huts are basic accommodation
with beach views and clean communal washrooms. Each of these lockable
huts can accommodate two people. Facilities include: a comfortable bed,
fan, mosquito net, small veranda and a sit out under the shade of the
coconut palms. A cozy place to put your head down after a full day!
BAMBOO
LODGES - Rs. 2,000 (includes breakfast for two)
The bamboo lodges are set among the palm fronds and are the probably
the first of their kind in the world. Built with bamboo that has drifted
from Burma, these split-level accommodations give you ample space. The
top floor houses the bedroom with a study area and a spacious verandah
over-looking the sea. At the ground level, the open-to-the-sky washrooms
and the secure storage area give you plenty room to spread out. These
rustic structures in this enchanting beach environment will inspire
you to return to your roots!
FOOD - A DELIGHTFUL VARIETY
Our restaurant
is the first one on the island that serves authentic island cuisine,
for the spice lover the Bengali flare is real treat: hand ground spices,
coconut milk, mustard oil and tons of fresh fish! Our Italian selection
offers hand-made pasta and our outdoor seafood grill adds flavour to
a starry Andaman night.
Beer, wine and spirits are served at the beach side bar. The cocktail
evenings and campfires are a perfect way to mingle with your fellow
guests at the Gecko.
SERVICES
AYURVEDA
The ayurvedic facility at the Emerald Gecko will delight your senses.
By the aqua marine sea, a huge tree that had fallen to the ground has
re-rooted itself to form the walls of our open-to-the-sky facility.
Here, amidst the thick tropical foliage and whispering winds, full body
massages are administered by expert hands.
SCUBA
DIVING
The Andaman Sea offers one of the richest coral reef ecosystem in the
world that can be enjoyed by divers of all levels. We are a diver friendly
resort so we work closely with the schedules of the divers and we are
conveniently situated near all dive operators on Havelock. For recommendations
and more diving info: contact@wildorchidandaman.com
SNORKELING
Snorkeling is usually a group event, we take 4 to 6 Gecko guests on
a dugout to outlying reefs. We provide the equipment and local guides
to help you discover: hump-headed wrasse, parrot fish, lion fish, schools
of blue fin trevelly and barracuda, manta rays, white tip reef sharks,
turtles and many more! The coral in the Andamans is said to be amongst
the best as it escaped the bleaching effects of El Nino and there is
no dynamite fishing in the islands.
FISHING
Game fishing is popular in the Andamans and we give you an authentic
fishing experience. We employ local fisherman and their dugouts to search
out big game fish like king mackerel, dolphin dorado, giant trevelly,
dog tooth and yellow fin tuna and many more! These will give you a fight
and a memory that will linger on forever.
